Lea-Ann O’Hare Germinder, APR, Fellow PRSA is Founder & President of Germinder + Associates, Inc. and Editor & Publisher of Goodnewsforpets.com. She has counseled dozens of companies and executives in the pet/vet sector and launched products and programs in several other niche sectors.
She is a veteran communicator and a longtime leader in the public relations profession. Over the last 22 years, she has focused, she has worked with pharmaceutical companies, pet food companies and association executives to build partnerships that build brands and help educate the public. Her iconic “Pets Need Dental Care, Too!” campaign for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, division of Colgate, created the oral care category for pets. She helped in the early growth of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA) for pet insurance companies. She and her team created “KNOW Heartworms” on behalf of Zoetis, the American Heartworm Society and the American Association of Feline Practitioners to introduce new feline heartworm guidelines. She and her team helped change perceptions of heartworm prevention treatment modalities and behavior products for Ceva Sante Animale’s North American Division.
Germinder is an early adopter of digital communications. As Founder and Publisher of Goodnewsforpets.com, an award-winning digital platform she has managed editorial and technical teams but also conducted dozens of personal interviews of industry leaders. In 2017 she launched GNFP Digital to combine the power of Germinder’s communications expertise with Goodnewsforpets’ publishing expertise.
She has authored articles, and delivered seminars, speeches and conducted media appearances and briefings on communications, veterinary and pet-related issues to a wide variety of audiences at domestic and international venues including the Veterinary Medicines Summit in Nice, France and publications in Prague, the Czech Republic. Her most recent presentations on digital media have been to audiences as varied as international graduate students at New York City’s Baruch College Master’s Program on Luxury Brands to veterinarians and their practice managers on “What’s Your Story Now?” an overview of the blending of traditional and digital media convergence at the NY Vet conference at New York City’s Jacob Javits Center.
Germinder is an Accredited Fellow of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and has served as a Director on the PRSA National Board and a Trustee for the PRSA Foundation. She has served as the PRSA Midwest District Chair and Tri-State District Chair and as President of the New York City and Kansas City PRSA chapters. She has also served as a judge for numerous awards programs including the PRSA-NY’s 15 Under 35 Program. She is a member of over a dozen organizations representing women, domestic and international public relations and veterinary medicine.
Germinder’s work has been recognized by the PRSA Silver Anvil Award of Excellence, the American Animal Hospital Association Gold Key Award, the IABC Bronze Quill, the VMX Vetty Bronze Award and dozens of local communications awards. Her latest award has been recognition for mentoring by the PRSA-NY chapter with the Makovsky Excellence in Mentoring Award.
She has also won other numerous small business and women’s leadership awards including the Women Who Mean Business from the Kansas City Business Journal and Kauffman Foundation, the Enterprising Women Honoree from Enterprising Women Magazine, 25 Under 25 from Kansas City Small Business Monthly and featured in Women in the Pet Industry Network magazine.
She graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts, Minor in Marketing.
